RostockGedser.com is an independent guide to the Scandlines ferry between Rostock and Gedser. This page explains what data we process when you use the site, why we do it and what your rights are. The short version: we only run visitor statistics after you accept cookies, we keep what you send us through the contact form so that we can reply, and booking happens on scandlines.com, not here. Who is responsible
The site is run by FerryGoGo BV, Jufferstraat 3, 3701 AD Zeist, the Netherlands, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under number 76706060, phone +31 85 060 4089. FerryGoGo BV is the controller for the data described on this page. You can reach us through the contact form on our About page or by email to info@rostockgedser.com.
Hosting and server logs
The site is hosted by Hostinger International Ltd on servers in the Netherlands. Like every web server, ours keeps access logs: your IP address, the time of the request, the page requested, your browser type and the page you came from. We use these logs to keep the site secure and to find faults, and they are deleted automatically after a short period. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure site (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Cookies and your choice
When you first visit, a banner asks whether we may use cookies for statistics. Until you choose, no statistics cookies are set. These are the cookies the site uses:
- rg_consent: remembers your choice in the cookie banner (accepted or declined) for 180 days, for all language versions of the site. Strictly necessary, no consent needed.
- _ga and _ga_*: Google Analytics, only after you accept. See the next section.
We set no advertising cookies and use no social media plugins. You can change your choice at any time via the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page. Declining also removes any Google Analytics cookies already on your device.
Statistics cookies (Google Analytics)
We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages are visited, how visitors find the site and which pages lead to a booking. Its cookies (names starting with _ga) are only set after you accept them in the cookie banner. Until then Google Analytics runs in a mode without cookies and without identifying you. The data is processed by Google Ireland Limited and may be transferred to Google LLC in the United States under the EU standard contractual clauses; Google Analytics 4 does not store full IP addresses. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time via “Cookie settings”.
Booking links and our partnership with Scandlines
We are an independent partner of Scandlines Deutschland GmbH, the operator of the route. The “Book” buttons and links on this site lead to booking.scandlines.com through a short link on our own domain (addresses starting with /go/). The link carries a partner ID so that Scandlines can attribute a booking to us and pay us a commission. You pay the same price as when you go to scandlines.com directly, and your booking is made with Scandlines: we never see what you book or the details you enter there. From the moment you arrive on scandlines.com, the Scandlines privacy policy and its terms and conditions of carriage apply.
When you click one of these links we record the click in our own site database: the time, the page and link you clicked, your browser type and your IP address. We use this to see which pages lead to bookings and to spot automated abuse of the links. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running the site as a business (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Click records are not shared with anyone.
Contact form
If you write to us through the contact form, we receive your name, your email address and your message by email. We use them only to answer you, keep the exchange for as long as it is needed to deal with your question and do not pass them on. Legal basis: taking steps at your request (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Please do not send booking details or payment information through the form; for bookings, changes and refunds contact Scandlines directly.
Live data and embedded services
Timetables, prices and departure status are fetched by our server from the Scandlines feed; no data about you is sent for that. Some pages also load content from other providers directly in your browser. This only happens on the pages that use it, and the provider then receives your IP address and browser details, as it would if you visited its site. These providers are:
- Maps: map tiles from OpenStreetMap (OpenStreetMap Foundation, United Kingdom) and the Leaflet map library from the jsDelivr content delivery network, on pages with a route map.
- Weather and sea state: forecasts from Open-Meteo (Open-Meteo.com, Switzerland) and, on the weather page, an embedded map from Windy.com (Windyty SE, Czech Republic).
- Live ship positions: an embedded map from VesselFinder (Astra Paging Ltd, Bulgaria), on the live positions page.
- Videos: YouTube (Google) in privacy-enhanced mode, on our video page. In this mode YouTube sets no cookies until you start a video.
We have no influence on what these providers do with the data once it reaches them; their own privacy policies apply.
What we do not do
This site has no user accounts, no newsletter and no comment function. We do not sell data, we do not build profiles of visitors and we do not combine data from different sources about you.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask us which personal data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to its processing, and receive a copy of the data you gave us. Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time; for cookies, use the “Cookie settings” link. To exercise these rights, use the contact form on our About page or by email to info@rostockgedser.com. If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl) or to the data protection authority in your own country.
Changes to this page
When something changes in how the site works, we update this page and the date at the top. The other language versions of this site have their own privacy page.
