The crossing on video
The first video shows the two hybrid ferries on the route, the second is a film of the crossing made by a passenger. Both are hosted on YouTube.
Two hours on board, step by step
The Berlin and the Copenhagen are the same design, so this is what the crossing looks like whichever ship you get. The photos further down follow the same order.
- Driving on. You drive in through the bow and are waved into a lane on the car deck. Take what you need for two hours: you cannot go back to the car during the crossing.
- Up to the passenger decks. Stairs and lifts lead up from the car deck, and signs on the landings list what is on which deck.
- The lounge. Sofas, bar stools and big windows along the side. With a window seat you watch the sea go by without going outside.
- Eating. The Food Express is a self-service cafeteria for a quick meal, snacks and drinks, and there is a buffet restaurant as well. Two hours is enough for a proper lunch.
- Travel Shop. The on-board shop, for those who want to use the time to shop.
- With children. A pirate-themed play corner, and gaming machines for the older ones.
- Outside. The outer deck runs around the funnels and the rotor sail, the tall white cylinder that helps drive the hybrid ferry. Bring a jacket, it is windy out there even on a sunny day.
- Arriving. Coming into Rostock the ferry passes the pier lights and the lighthouse of Warnemünde and then sails up the river Warnow to the Überseehafen. It is the best part of the crossing, so go back on deck for it.
